Documentation Decides Claims — We Do It Right

trusted roofing company, Hackensack NJ

Most roofing companies say they’ll “help with your insurance claim.” Here’s what that usually means: they hand you a quote and wish you luck.

Simple Roofing is different for one specific reason: we treat the insurance claim as part of the roofing job — not your problem to figure out alone. We’ve documented and supported storm-damage claims across northern New Jersey for years. We know how carriers evaluate roof damage, what their adjusters are trained to look for, what gets claims approved, and what gets them denied. That knowledge is built into every storm-damage inspection we run.

How a Roof Insurance Claim Actually Works in NJ

  1. Damage happens. Wind lifts or creases shingles, hail bruises them, a tree limb lands. Age and wear are not covered — damage from a specific event is.
  2. Documentation — before anything else. This step decides the claim. We drone-document the entire roof: creased tabs, missing shingles, impact marks, collateral damage (gutters, vents, screens) that proves the storm hit your house.
  3. The honest go/no-go call. If the damage won’t support a claim, we tell you — about a third of the storm calls we inspect get a “don’t file” recommendation.
  4. You file; we support. We provide the documentation package, meet the insurance adjuster on your roof, and answer scope questions.
  5. Approved scope → quality replacement. We build to the approved scope with GAF materials, lifetime manufacturer warranty plus our 10-year workmanship warranty.

What Insurance Covers (and What It Doesn’t)

Usually covered Not covered
Wind-creased or missing shingles from a storm Wear, age, granule loss over time
Hail impact damage Pre-existing leaks
Tree or debris impact Improper installation by a past roofer
Resulting interior water damage Moss/algae staining
Tarping & emergency stabilization costs Cosmetic-only damage (policy-dependent)

Mistakes That Kill NJ Roof Claims

  • Calling the carrier before documenting. The claim record starts with your first call. Get the facts first.
  • Sidewalk photos. Carriers deny what they can’t see. Drone documentation closes the argument.
  • Signing with a door-knocking storm chaser. Assignment-of-benefits paperwork from out-of-state crews after big storms is the #1 regret we hear.
  • Letting the carrier’s adjuster inspect alone. They’re trained to scope conservatively. We’re on the roof with them.
  • Missing the deadline. Policies require prompt notice — months-old damage gets contested. After any major storm, get inspected within weeks.

Wind vs. Hail in Northern New Jersey

Our market’s claims are mostly wind: nor’easters, summer thunderstorm gusts, and the river-valley corridors that funnel them — we see the same streets in Clifton, Garfield, and North Arlington after every event. Hail is less frequent but does hit — and hail bruising is invisible from the ground while still totaling a roof. Either way, the inspection is free and the documentation is yours.

FAQ — Roof Insurance Claims in NJ

Do you handle the insurance claim for me?

We’re a roofing contractor — we document the damage, give you an honest read on whether it supports a claim, provide the evidence package, meet the carrier’s adjuster on your roof, and build to the approved scope. You make the decisions; we make sure you never make them blind.

Will my premiums go up if I file?

A single weather claim in NJ typically has less premium impact than people fear, but it varies by carrier — which is why we only recommend filing when damage clearly supports it.

My claim was already denied — can you help?

Often, yes. Denials based on thin documentation can be reopened with proper evidence. Bring us the denial letter and we’ll give you a straight read.

How long do I have to file in NJ?

Policies vary — often around one year for storm claims — but practically: inspect within days, file within weeks. Fresh damage is provable damage.

The drone inspection and damage assessment are free, claim or no claim. If a claim proceeds, your out-of-pocket is typically your deductible — NJ law does not allow contractors to “eat the deductible,” and anyone offering to is committing insurance fraud with your name on the file. Rafael from Simple Roofing was my primary point of contact. As a first-time home-buyer, my insurance required a new roof to maintain coverage, and Rafael guided me through the entire process. He listened to all my concerns, answered every … More question, and was available 24/7 throughout the project.
He also provided examples of previous work and clients, which gave me confidence in his team’s abilities. Their pricing was very reasonable compared to other companies.
I got quotes from three companies: Simple Roofing, Company B, and Company C. Company B quoted almost double, and Company C insisted on a metal roof.
I explained, FOR 3 HOURS, that a metal roof was not in my budget, and Company C then quoted me 3x the price for a regular shingle roof. Both Company B and C were suggesting financing these 2x and 3x priced roofing projects over 15–25 years, which I thought was insane—financing a project over such a long period and paying interest the whole time. Going with Simple Roofing ended up being a no-brainer: I got a fair price that I could finance over a much smaller time period.
Rafael carefully reviewed the roof, pointing out areas of concern and suggesting improvements such as better gutter routing for efficiency. Scheduling was easy, and the team completed the work in a single day.
Minor points to note: I did find a few nails in my driveway and lawn after the job was completed. To be fair: his team did collect about 99% of the nails and debris. It’s important to do your own scan afterward so you don’t accidentally drive over nails with your car or run over them with a lawn mower. That said, this is something a homeowner should generally expect to do after any roofing project, so it’s not a big deal.
Another small disappointment was that I did not get the option to keep any extra materials that I paid for. I’m not sure if there were any leftover materials or if the estimates were for exact amounts, but if there were any extras, they were taken by the crew. On the positive side, Rafael provided $100 worth of plywood at no extra charge for roof deck replacements, which I did need, so the final cost did not exceed the original estimate. I would assume the extra roof decking supplies were included in the estimate so it wasn't technically free, but he mentioned that if more roof decking was needed, that it would affect the final cost.
Rafael also worked closely with me and my financing team to ensure the roof could be financed, guiding me through every step.
Your mileage may vary, but from my experience, the process from price quoting to scheduling, talking with financing, and completing the job felt really quick. From start to finish, it was completed much faster than I anticipated.
Overall, I highly recommend Simple Roofing. They are trustworthy, local to the Northern NJ area, and professional. My new roof looks pristine, and their work exceeded my expectations. I would recommend them to anyone, whether for a small repair or a full roof replacement.

Rafael is such a nice and polite and understanding person. His quality with Customer service is awesome. He sat down and explain to myself and my husband from top to finish and what I love about this company is the way Raphael explained … More everything they first of all took pictures with the drone of the condition of the roof sit down and explain it to us step-by-step step-by-step. Their workers were amazing when they were finished in two days you would never thought from looking down from the ground of all the work that they did by the time they finished everything was spotless. You will never thought that they were there until you took a look up and seeing such an amazing job that they did on the roof. I recommend this company to anyone who needs their roof replaced outstanding. They only allow me to give five stars if I could, I will give 100 stars.

I highly recommend Simple Roofing to anyone out there looking for a contractor to replace a new roof. I will also recommend my friends and family for their roofing projects. I have attached before and after installation of the new roof. … More Rafael Peralta walk me through everything in detail regarding this project, he was very flexible and work with your schedules. I’m super happy with the result and no complains from my tenant at all after the project was completed. They kept their words by removed the dumpster and swept clean the property. There are so many companies out there that can do the roofing project but I decided to choose Simple Roofing because this is the company that care about their customers and keep their customers happy throughout the project plus they have 5 stars rating for a reason which I cannot even describe enough to say how great they are.
